Our Review Process

Every game reviewed on PlayScored goes through a consistent editorial process:

  1. Extended Play — We complete the main campaign or invest significant hours into multiplayer/sandbox titles before writing. No rush reviews based on early access or preview builds.
  2. Sub-Rating Assessment — Each game is evaluated across six independent dimensions: Gameplay, Graphics, Story, Audio, Performance, and Value. See How We Review for full per-axis rubric.
  3. Editorial Review — The final score reflects the overall experience, not simply the average of sub-ratings. Context matters.
  4. Publication — Every review includes a transparent scoring breakdown, honest pros and cons, and a clear editorial verdict.

Scoring System

We use a 1–10 scale with the following general guide:

  • 9–10: Exceptional — a must-play that sets new standards
  • 7–8: Great — well-crafted with minor shortcomings
  • 5–6: Average — has merits but notable flaws
  • 3–4: Below average — significant issues outweigh positives
  • 1–2: Poor — fundamentally broken or deeply flawed

Each review also rates six sub-categories: Gameplay, Graphics, Story, Audio, Performance, and Value.

Editorial Independence

PlayScored does not accept payment for review scores. Our editorial content is never influenced by advertising relationships, affiliate partnerships, or publisher pressure. Scores are determined solely by the reviewer's experience with the game.

Disclosure Policy

When a review copy is provided by a publisher or developer, we disclose this in the review. Receiving a review copy does not influence our score or editorial opinion.

Corrections Policy

If we publish inaccurate information, we correct it promptly and transparently. Corrections are noted at the top of the affected article with a description of what changed and when.
